The gathering on a sunny Sunday at WAMSAD saw some 18 bikes arrive at 10:30 for the 11:00 off — following the briefing outlining the buddy system, keeping up with the bike in front whilst still maintaining the 2 second rule for distances between bikes, we all set off over the M4 motorway, down the Drift Road, where cars and horses managed to impede progress down that lovely straight, through Ascot, round Bracknell, down the A322 past Bisley, Worplesdon to Guilford to join the A3 for a short ride to the turnoff for the Guilford dealership down the A3000. The traffic on the A3 was quite heavy and the pack had to merge in as they could with considerable success. It was not easy, well done all and just emphasises the importance of the “buddy” system so the pack can see where to go until we regroup.
Skirting the Guilford dealership we took the short cut to the A281 Horsham road ( what a lovely set of bridges, especially the last one ! ) to arrive at the Dunsfold Airfield where the Air Ambulance guys had their open day.
Eyes lit up as we directed to going round the perimeter track (can we do a “Stig” please Dad) but they had put 30 mph restrictions on the track—shame!
A Hog Roast, helicopter rides, the Sussex Bike Safe guys, Ambulance and Fire Services all giving very live demonstrations of what they have to cope with on a day to day basis. Very impressive was the speed and care they take with RTA’s.
Such a lovely day could not end too early so a few bikes stopped off at the Worplesden Arms to have late food and drinks on the lawns followed by the group then going its’ different ways back home.
We do hope the day raised a good amount of funds for the very worthwhile cause of the Air Ambulance guys and thanks to all who supported us for the day.
Cheers all and thanks to the road crew Fred, Clive S, Postie as tail and Kathy as point, who kept us all together so well.
