It was a quiet weekend up to ca 16:00 Saturday when we agreed to a run to support the Abingdon Fire Station Bike day was in order. Thanks Keith for the information - the Fire service are certainly one of our favourite services.
Swift texting to all those on the text lists a a beautiful day resulted in 8 bikes and many pillions (was it the idea of the guys in uniform that got the ladies out?) leaving the dealership led by Don W and tailed by Fred to Wycombe Cressex cinema where we picked up 6 more - including some new riders and new bikes. It was almost 5 as one bike needed lots of TLC and first aid before it could make the next stage of the journey. (see photos) (click on read more to see the rest of the article)
The merry pack then wended it's way via Lane End and the A40 past Stokenchurch and to Stadhampton to join the Oxford / Reading road for the short leg to "H's" (ex Fox's), where we had some more bike waiting for us for the final sector to Abingdon. A lovely ride with open roads, great views over the Oxfordshire counrtyside and not too many dropoff's needed.
After a short (?) break for food and liquids it was off to Abingdon for a great day laid on by the local Fire service with a raffle for charity, drinks and a BBq. Several support services were there including the blood transportation guys - never know when we may unfortunately need them - and also the police. The IAM were also there together with a couple of the local dealers showing their wares.
AS the day drew to a close we all wended our way back via Henley to our respective homes, to have a very interesting diversion just outside Bix when the road was closed. Hope the people involved were all OK.
A great impromptu day, so thanks to all who got the day organised at short notice and showed us some different, scenic roads out to "H's", the road crew Don W, Fred, Ian and Richard A.
Cheers all
